| There
are over hundreds species of Stingray fish and they occurs
throughout the world's tropical and temperate sea. These
species maybe different in appearance but share common
features such as a whiplash tail and venomous spine.
We use only 2 types of Stingray
fish, the Single Crown (Pearl) Stingray fish (Dasyatis
Bleekeri) and Spotted Eagle Rays/Row stone (Pearl)
Stingray fish (Dasyatis Bleekeri/Aetobatus Narinari).
These marine Stingrays are mainly found in South Asia
and South East Asia especially in Thai Gulf and Andaman
Sea. Both species are neither endangered nor threatened.
According to CITES (The Convention on International
Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna),
there are documents to show that Stingray is not included
in these appendices and therefore legal for commercial
and trading through the world.
Some people eat the flesh of the Stingrays and others
use the tail spine as a spear tip, dagger, needles and
awls. They also extracted oil from the ray's liver for
commercial value. The Stingray skin has been used for
drumheads, furniture, shoes, boots and leather accessories.
The skin has a beautiful pearl-sturdded apperance at
the back of the rays, which is as hard as a rock. The
microscopic fibers of the Stingray skin are woven together,
unlike ordinary cowhides, which have parallel fibers.
Therefore, the Stingray skin had to be tanned using
8 types of chemical with as many as 22 processes, to
yield into a strong, soft skin of exquisite texture
and beauty. On a laboratory test, we found that the
tensile strength of rays skin is 25 times stronger than
hides, and they are scratch, pierre and fire proof.
Strong and durable are not sufficient
to describe its durability. The long lasting of usage
in all products of Stingray skin were turned to be antique,
that is why we name it "immortal leather"
under our brand name RAY®.
